The Secret To Permanent Weight Loss. (OMG It works!)

I am going to cut to the chase.

I personally believe the single biggest reason people lose weight only to gain it back boils down to one word and that word is “Identity.” An Identity is very simple. It is nothing more or less then the way you view yourself at the subconscious level. (A Mental Snapshot of yourself.)

Let’s say that your internal mental image or current self image for your body weight is 195 lbs. This weight is maintained automatically by your subconscious mind. You will eat and do everything that is in exact accordance with that mental image and set program.  Now, one day you consciously decide that you want to lose weight and you go on a diet. You use your will power to eat differently and you may even start to exercise. Sounds good right? It works for a while and then what happens? The majority of people gain all their weight back within a very short period of time. Some even gain more.

But why does this always happen?

Good question…

This leads me to a great story I heard Anthony Robbins tell in one of his seminars. It is the story of the scorpion and the frog.

(trust me it’s not too silly)

You see the scorpion came up to a river and he wanted to cross it to see his family. So he asked the frog to give him a ride across the river on his back.

The frog said no, you are a scorpion and scorpions kill frogs!!!

The scorpion said, if I kill you while you are giving me a ride I will drown and end up dying too. I would never do that.

The frog was puzzled…

…but agreed and preceded to give the scorpion a ride across the river on his back.

About half way across the river the scorpion took his stinger and jammed it into the frogs back. As the frog was going down for the third count he said why did you do that…you said you wouldn’t. The scorpion replied…


You see one of our strongest human traits is to be consistent with our own identity. Even if what we are doing is bad for us!!! If you see yourself as a lazy, unhealthy, fat or unmotivated person, your (RAS) Reticular Activation System (part brain that keeps you in your comfort zone) will start attracting all the habits “like a magnet” inline with these beliefs of yourself.

Your subconscious mind is doing this to avoid pain and to take you towards pleasure. Since the changes you are trying to make go against your “identity” you have of yourself. They are perceived as painful (because as humans we do not like change).

This works not only with weight loss but also with all areas of life.   The good news is you can change your identity or (label) you have of yourself you in turn change the habits.

But How?

There are numerous ways to change your programming and access your subconscious mind, from hypnosis, self-hypnosis, meditation, neurolinguistic programming (nlp) to a bunch of other complicated-sounding techniques.  To recondition your old programming, you simply need to bombard your subconscious mind with positive programming in the form of new declarations and positive affirmations. You do this by creating positive affirmations and reading, writing, visualizing and hearing them over and over until they replace your old automatic negative thoughts.

Once you create these automatic positive thoughts and instill them in the subconscious part of your brain, they work twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week…three hundred sixty five days a year!

In order for a positive affirmations and visualizations to have a lasting affect on the non-conscious it must be done while you are in an alpha-state of consciousness. You might recognize this state as you are driving, or reading a book and your mind wonders off. You will also go into this state right before you fall asleep or wake up. In this state of very light hypnosis your non-conscious becomes open to change and creativity.

The best way to get into an alpha state is with the aid of a Hypnotherapist. Hypnotherapy has proven itself to be a very effective means of permanently rewiring the brain. But one-on-one counseling sessions are so expensive, you’re telling yourself. Fortunately, there are affordable alternatives.  And the good news is that thanks to today’s technology, hypnosis can be performed extremely cost-effectively from the comfort and convenience of your own home.
