It’s Ok To Talk To Yourself.  (must read!)

Let me get right to the point today!

Your internal chatter or self-talk is a form of self-hypnosis.  Stay with me (it will make sense in second)

Basically the messages (also called autosuggestions) you tell yourself everyday shape your internal image or “snap shot” of yourself and attract all your habits, behaviors, beliefs and impulses. (both good and bad) in line with that image automatically.

So I’m my own worst enemy?

(heck no! let me show you how this works)

Changing the stories that you tell yourself is really as easy as it sounds.  The problem is that if you’ve been telling yourself the wrong stories for years and years, it’s going to take some time for the new stories to have an impact. This requires an understanding of what ingredients will make a powerful and emotionally charged story that will leave a lasting impression on your subconscious mind.

The technical term for this is autosuggestion and it’s accomplished through the application of positive affirmations. This is quite a bit more than just positive thinking; there is a specific formula that your affirmations need to follow in order to be effective in altering your beliefs and your self-image.

First thing we gotta figure is your learning style! There are three kinds of learning styles. In order for you to get the most out of your autosuggestion, it’s important for you to know your personal learning style. This way you can customize the practice of your affirmations so they have the most powerful effect on your subconscious mind.

Here are the three learning styles:

Visual

Auditory

Kinesthetic

Visual means that visual stimuli have the strongest effect on your mind and make it easier for you to learn something. Auditory means that the things you hear have the strongest impression and kinesthetic means that you are a hands on learner and you internalize things you become physically engaged in.

 For visual learners <——————————————————

Write your affirmations down and read them out loud while looking at them. Even if you get them memorized, keep reading them. Other options are creating a collage with pictures of healthy foods and thin and happy people. If you have a great imagination you can even close your eyes and imagine yourself thin. Give yourself as much visual stimuli as possible to create an impression on your subconscious mind.

For auditory learners <——————————————————

In addition to speaking your affirmations out loud, record them in your own voice and listen to them. You can put them on your ipod or burn them to a cd and listen to them in your car. Just be sure that you are paying attention to them and that you are feeling the emotional states you will experience when your affirmation is true. The following are two places you can go online and record your own audio programs.  www.prvsoft.com  and  http://vocaroo.com/

For Kinesthetic learners <——————————————————

For hands on learners, the best option is the physical act of writing out your affirmations by hand. Writing is great because it engages the visual, auditory and kinesthetic faculties. However, for hands on people it is the best way to become physically involved in your affirmations. In addition, hands on learners can practice pushing their plates away from them while the plate still has food on it or as a smoker imagine holding your hand up around other smokers offering you a cigarette saying “No thanks I’m a non-smoker!”

Remember the key is repetition!
